Auxiliary Coordinates Dialog

Used to create, copy, delete, or import an Auxiliary Coordinate System (ACS) and to select ACS tools. Opens when the Auxiliary Coordinates icon in the Primary Tools toolbox is clicked (the icon is hidden by default).

Note: The display of the ACS Triad in a view is set in the View Attributes dialog.

Create a new ACS


Adds a new ACS in the list box, with the default name highlighted, ready to edit. The Origin and Type properties of the new ACS are automatically set by default to match the active ACS.
Copy ACS


Creates a copy of the ACS highlighted in the list box.
Delete ACS


Deletes the ACS highlighted in the list box.
Import ACS


Opens the Import Auxiliary Coordinate Systems dialog, which is used to import an ACS from a model in another DGN file.
Define ACS (Aligned with Element)


Performs the same function as the Define ACS by Element tool.
Define ACS by View


Performs the same function as the Define ACS by View tool.
Rotate ACS


Selects the Rotate ACS tool.
Move ACS


Selects the Move ACS tool.
Apply ACS to Selected View


Selects the Apply ACS to Selected View tool.
Select ACS


Selects the Select ACS tool.
List box The list box displays the active ACS at the top, above the separator, followed by available ACS's, which appear below the separator. Columns in the list are:
  • Name — Displays the name of the ACS. You can edit the Name of the selected ACS by clicking it and keying in a new name.
  • Origin X — Displays the value, in Global coordinates, of the origin for the ACS X axis. You can edit the Origin X value for the selected ACS by clicking it and keying in a new value.
  • Origin Y — Displays the value, in Global coordinates, of the origin for the ACS Y axis. You can edit the Origin Y value for the selected ACS by clicking it and keying in a new value.
  • Origin Z — (3D only) Displays the value, in Global coordinates, of the origin for the ACS Z axis. You can edit the Origin Z value for the selected ACS by clicking it and keying in a new value.
  • Type — Displays the type of ACS — Rectangular, Cylindrical, or Spherical. In 3D, you can change the Type of selected ACS by clicking it and choosing the new type from the pop-up option menu.
  • Description — Displays the optional description for the ACS. You can edit the Description of the selected ACS by clicking it and keying in a new description.
Note: The Scale, Orientation, and Rotation columns are hidden by default. To display them, right-click the list box's header row and choose them from the pop-up menu.
Pop-up menu Options in the (right-click) pop-up menu let you perform the following tasks on the selected ACS.
  • Set Active — (Non-active ACS only) Sets the selected ACS to be active. This same action can be performed by double-clicking the ACS entry.
  • Update From Active — (Non-active ACS only) Matches all values for the selected ACS to those of the active ACS.
  • Reset To Global — Sets coordinates back to the original global system, with the active ACS appearing as "Unnamed".
  • Copy — Makes a copy of the selected ACS. By default, the copied ACS is given the name “Copy of <ACS name>” and is highlighted for editing.
  • Toggle View Independent — If on, the active ACS rotates along with the view rotation. This option is enabled only for the active ACS.
  • Delete — (Non-active ACS only) Deletes the selected ACS.
  • Rename — (Non-active ACS only) Lets you rename the selected ACS.
